REGISTRATION AND RIDE INFORMATION
The ride will be begin at 8 am. If you are arriving by car, please arrive no later than 7:45 am. If you wish to purchase or pick up T-shirts, please arrive between 7:30 and 7:45 am. The ride route will include a slow paced remembrance lap around Newport Center Drive starting at Santa Rosa and proceeding south. This is approximately 1.2 miles. We would like as many riders as possible to wear the commemorative T-shirts for this lap. Whole Foods will have a table with water in the parking structure. Due to the number of merchants providing "in kind" donations, we will before the ride we will sell raffle tickets for these items. You can see the items on the "Raffle Information and Items" page.
The ride will begin from the northwest corner of Santa Rosa and Newport Center Drive at 8:00. If you are driving, you may temporarily park on the top (third) floor of the Whole Foods Parking structure at the corner of Santa Rosa and Newport Center Drive., however the parking spaces are limited. There will be traffic security guards helping direct those who arrive by car. If you arrive by car and the "allotted" spaces have been taken, you may need to park your car on Newport Center Drive.
The ride will end with a right turn on Center Drive. There is a large parking area there where groups can assemble for the "unofficial" ride or for a continuation of their own group ride.
"Unofficial Ride" Following the Memorial Ride
At the start of the Memorial Ride, Councilwoman Leslie Daigle is expected to announce an "unofficial ride" to follow the Memorial Ride for those riders who would like to continue to ride. If you wish to participate in the unofficial ride, you will need to park your car outside of the Fashion Island retail area and ride your bikes to the start of the Memorial Ride. The unofficial ride will not be suitable for children.
OC Bike Coalition has also created .gpx and .tcx files for you to download into your Garmin or other ride mapping devices. They have also created a schedule of parks near the start of the Memorial Ride for you to use for parking. THANKS OCBIKE COALITION!! Here's the link: Bike Route and Parking Information.
ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR A HELMET!!
NOTE ON PARKING: Whole Foods has allowed a portion of their parking structure to be used for this event, however we have agreed all cars will leave the parking lot no later than 9:30 am on the event date. Note if you have a bike rack on top of your car, the vertical clearance is 8'2".
Due to limited parking, we suggest finding a meetup point at a park or other facility where you can meet your friends and ride to the event. Eastbluff and Back Bay are two street locations close to the start.
Many Club riders are making the Memorial Ride a part of their morning route from their normal start location. This will also free up parking spaces for those who must use their cars to get to the Ride.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
This ride is sponsored by the City of Newport Beach. There is no fee for the ride, but we really need donations. You will be directed to the donations page after you register. Additionally, to show our collective support, we would like as many riders as possible to wear the T-shirts for the short memorial ride. Click here for information on the T-shirts.
